Sex with My Husband Is Boring: What Should I Do?

A happy marriage doesn’t always mean a satisfying sex life.

This question is a perfect example:

“Saying this feels embarrassing, but sex with my husband is boring. He is a wonderful husband and father, but when it comes to sex, he’s more about penetration than anything else. He’s not exciting. He does not know how to talk dirty or how to make sex interesting. We do the same thing every time, and it gets boring. Sometimes I just lie there and let him do what he wants to do. I have brought this up with him before, but it seemed as if I was pressuring him. Before I got married, I had expectations that sex would be something I would always look forward to with my husband. But I’m disappointed. Am I asking for too much”

When I read this question from a woman, my heart went out to her because I could feel her yearning for more excitement, more enthusiasm, and more aliveness in her sex life.

Many couples assume that if they love each other deeply, a satisfying sex life will happen naturally, but that’s not necessarily true.

You can be married and still be on different sexual wavelengths.

Everyone has preconceived notions about sex that have informed the sexual template they have today.

One partner may see sex primarily as intercourse.

The other may long for anticipation, playfulness, exploration, emotional connection, and novelty.

Neither person is necessarily wrong. They’re simply working with different sexual templates.

So what do you do when two spouses are on different sexual wavelengths?

  • How do you introduce change without criticism?
  • How do you invite your partner into exploration instead of making them feel inadequate?
  • And where do you even begin if sex has become predictable?

These are the questions I explore in this episode of my podcast, where I share practical ways couples can move from routine to curiosity without creating pressure or conflict.

Listen to the full episode below, where I walk through this couple’s situation, explain why this happens in many marriages, and share the small shifts that can completely change the experience of intimacy.
