Many men misunderstand why their wives lose interest in sex.
Let me share what a client shared with me.
This client had been struggling with disinterest in sex with her husband, and she couldn’t put a finger on why.
However, at her place of work, there was a male colleague who, over time, had become a friend.
This colleague was extra attentive to her. He would check on her, ask how she was doing, notice when she seemed down, and show genuine care.
Their relationship was never sexual, but after a while, she noticed that simple gestures like handshakes or side hugs from him would get her body responding to him.
This left her confused. Why was she responding to someone else but not to her own husband?
As we worked together, the answer became clear.
For her, emotional connection was a major driver of sexual desire. Feeling seen, cared for, and emotionally connected awakened her desire.
Those experiences had gradually become absent in her marriage, while they were unintentionally being provided by someone else.
This is what happens in many marriages.
For many women, connection elicits sexual desire.
When that connection is missing, it can appear as though she doesn’t want sex or has lost interest in it.
In reality, what fuels her desire may simply be absent.
If your partner seems uninterested in sex, one of the things you want to look at is the state of your relational connection.
Are we connecting as a couple? Is there something that is important to this person for them to feel desire for sex?
Sometimes, that’s where the real answer begins.
